Commentary

The words formed with the तद्धित affixes denoting 'fitted for that' -- सम्पादिनि 5.1.99, 'deserving that' -- तद् अर्हति 5.1.63, 'good for that' -- तस्मै हितम् 5.1.5, 'capable to effect that' -- तस्मै प्रभवति संतापादिभ्यः 5.1.101, have acute accent (उदात्त) on the final when preceded by the Negative Particle नञ् , when it makes a negation with regard to the above mentioned attributes.
Thus संपादि 'suited for that' 5.1.99:-
The affix is ठञ् ॥ The affix is ठक् 5.1.64 and 5.1.19 हित 'good for that' 5.1.5 :- अवत्सीयः꣡ = न वत्सी यः ॥ The affix is छ5.1.1. अलमर्थः 'capable to effect that' 5.1.101 :- असंतापिकः꣡ = न संतापिकः ॥ The affix is ठञ् 5.1.18 Why do we say 'after नञ्'? Observe गर्दभरथमर्हति = गार्दभरथिकः, विगार्दभरथिकः, where the negative वि is used and therefore the avyaya वि retains its accent by 6.2.2. Why do we say 'negation of that attribute'? Observe गार्दभरथिकादन्यः = अगार्दभरथिकः ॥ The word गुण here means the attribute denoted by the Taddhita affix, and not any attribute in general. Why do we say 'in the sense of sampadi &c' ? Why do we say "Taddhita affixes"? Here तृच् a krit affix is added in the sense of 'deserving' 3.3.169.
