Commentary

The affix टच् comes after तक्ष when preceded by 1. ग्राम and 2. कौट in a तत्-पुरुष समास ।
The anuvritti of jati and sanjna does not run into this sutra. Thus, ग्रामस्य तक्षा = ग्रामतक्षः, बहूनां साधारणः 'the public carpenter of all'. कुट्यां भवः = कौटः; कौटस्य तक्षा = कौटतक्षः meaning स्वतन्त्रः कर्मजीवी, न कस्यचित्प्रातिबद्धः 'and independent artisan, not particularly bound under engagement to any one'.
