Commentary

After the verb स्था 'to stand', preceded by सम् , अव , प्र , वि , the आत्मनेपद affix is used.
As संतिष्ठते 'he stays with,' अवतिष्ठते 'he waits patiently,' प्रतिष्ठते 'he sets forth,' वितिष्ठते 'he stands apart.'

Vart:- The verb स्था when preceded by आङ् and meaning 'solemn declaration' takes atmanepada terminations; as अस्ति संस्कारमात्रमातिष्ठते ॥ Or to take another example, जलं विशं वा तव कारणादास्थास्ये 'for thee I shall surely have recourse to water or poison.'
