The word भित्त is irregularly formed in the sense of 'a fragment, a portion'.
Thus भित्तं तिष्ठति, भित्तं प्रपतति ॥ This is synonymous with शकल ॥ The root-meaning of भिद् is not very manifest in this word, it may be taken as a rudhi word. The regular form is भिन्नं under 8.2.42.
