Commentary

An आर्धधातुक affix beginning with a त may optionally take the इट् affix after the roots 1. इष् 2. सह् 3. लुभ् 4. रुष् and 5. रिष्।
As एष्टा or एषिता ॥ The इष् 'to wish' (VI.59) is taken here, and not the इष् (IV. 19. IX. 53) of the Divadi and Kryadi class. Of the Divadi इष् 'to send, to go ' we have invariably प्रेषिता, प्रेषितुं, प्रेषितव्यं; and the इष् 'to repeat' of the Kryadi is governed also by this rule and has the same forms. Therefore some read the anuvritti of उदित् into this sutra. सह । सोढा । सहिता । लुभ । लोभिता । लोब्धा । रुष । रोष्टा । रोषिता । रिष् । रेष्टा । रेषिता ॥ Why do we say 'beginning with a त' ? Observe एषिष्यति ॥
